What is ZEISS SMILE?
SMILE is a flapless form of laser vision correction. Using the ZEISS laser, your surgeon shapes a thin disc of tissue (a lenticule) inside the cornea and removes it through a small opening, reshaping your eye to correct your vision. We perform the latest generation, ZEISS SMILE Pro.
How is SMILE different from LASIK?
LASIK creates a hinged corneal flap; SMILE does not. Because SMILE works without a corneal flap, many patients have a lower risk of dry eye and no flap to heal or dislodge — which is why athletes and people with active lifestyles often prefer it. At your consult we’ll help you choose the procedure that fits your eyes best.
What prescriptions can ZEISS SMILE treat?
SMILE is FDA-approved for nearsightedness — roughly -1.00 to -10.00 diopters — with or without astigmatism up to about 3.00 diopters. If your prescription is higher, or your corneas are too thin, we may recommend EVO ICL instead. The consultation confirms your best option.
Is the procedure painful? How long is recovery?
The eye is numbed with drops and you’ll receive relaxing medication. Most patients describe SMILE as quick and comfortable. Because there’s no flap, recovery is gentle — many patients are back to their routine within a few days.
